The purpose of this research was to develop a scale to measure childcare social support based upon childcare facilities and discuss its factor structure and reliability. A questionnaire survey was conducted nationwide on 1,133 parents who have children of preschool age. As a result of factor analysis, a “scale to measure childcare social support based on childcare facilities” consisting of five factors, “childcare help by Childcare facilities teacher”, “mental support”, “making a place to childcare”, “Short-time care services” and “childcare help by close person” and 20 items in total were developed. As a result of the calculation of Cronbach’s alpha of the factors obtained by the analysis, it was confirmed that the scale thus created had certain reliability. Consequently, the scale to measure childcare social support based on childcare facilities, created in this research, is considered to be appropriate to measure the needs of parents who have children of preschool age for childcare support.
