Interviews were conducted with 20 nurses who were recommended by the directors of the institutions they belonged to because of their respect for spirituality and agreed to participate in the study. All the participants were asked： “How do you try to grasp the inner world of elderly patients who have great difficulty communicating verbally?” As a result, the following 10 categories emerged： “detecting each patient’s own signs of self-expression,” “perceiving changes,” “eliciting self-expression from patients intentionally,” “creating an environment,” “making approaches to significant others,” “seeking information to engage patients in conversation,” “knowing that patients are able to express themselves,” “sounding out and identifying patient thoughts and wishes,” “collaborating and sharing with other staff,” and “having a receptive mind.”, P(論文)},
