This study aimed to clarify the differences in work engagement between home visit nursing administrators with different job backgrounds.\n There were 6,008 home visit nursing stations in Japan as of January, 2012. Half of the stations in each prefecture were randomly selected and asked to participate and subsequently the administrators of 2,882 stations participated. An anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data including demographic characteristics, job backgrounds including the process of the station being established, and organizational factors of the station. Work engagement was also surveyed using the shortened nine-item Japanese version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale( UWES-J-9)\n Out of 834 questionnaires returned( 29%), 749 completed questionnaires were analyzed. Job backgrounds significantly high in work engagement were the process of the station being established and taking office, participation in seminars, managerial experiences at offices other than home visit nursing stations, while no differences were found in registered certification and academic background. Those who kept the balance in the black were significantly higher in work engagement scores than those who failed to.
